Sculpture Scanning

In collaboration with the Städelschule Architecture Class (SAC) and the Liebieghaus Sculpture Collection in Frankfurt high resolution scans of selected sculptures from the collection were taken using an Artec EVA 3d scanner. The scanning process is contact free and does not require any markers to be placed on the object. Along with the 3d coordinates it captures a texture scan of the object. The scan data can be post processed to retrieve models for visualization, analysis, modeling, rapid prototyping.

The scans taken at the Liebieghaus serve in the SAC APD Master Degree program as a source for the analysis of form and aiming at reinterpreting these works by means of digital fabrication technologies.

For the geometric analysis of the retrieved mesh data the component meshCurvature was developed for Rhino Grasshopper to evaluate local min radius, max radius, mean curvature, gausian curvature.
